Royal Mail Set to Vote on Strike Action

Royal Mail will ballot their managers around the country in order to vote on the possibility of strike action due to job loses in the string of government cuts. This is the first time in more than 30 years that Royal Mail have the chance to vote on strike action.

The action will come from union workers for the company Unite and it is down to compulsary redundancies being forced from the top for empoyees in royal mail warehouses, parcel force and royal mail post offices.

It is being rumoured that there will be nearly 1500 jobs set to be cut out of only 8500 managers. Which ever way you look at it, thats quite a lot of cuts. I don’t suppose its just going to affect the managers involved, as this may also cause local post offices to close down and could affect the speed of delivery through the royal mail in the future.

The cuts are not just down to government cuts, some of it will come from companies such as TNT purchasing mail contracts from the government leaving less work for the Royal Mail staff. The ballot will begin in November and should it be successful, it could create chaos over the country and world over the christmas period.
